- My Order: You have to queue for the Haron Satay. It’s non-negotiable. Pair that with a plate of Song Kee Fried Oyster (extra crispy) and a majestic sugarcane juice tower. It’s the ultimate "I live in the East" flex.
James & Qin Yuan 's Tip: Parking can get tight on weekends. If the main carpark (E2) is full, try the one further down at E1; it’s a short walk but saves you the headache of waiting.

You cannot live in the East and not have an opinion on the "Bak Chor Mee Wars." Living at Vela Bay puts you close to the holy grail of supper spots.
- My Order: Everyone fights over Xing Ji vs. Seng Hiang. Honestly? I switch between them depending on the queue. But you must get the soup version. It’s comfort food that hits different at 11 PM after a long day of work. Don't forget theSambal Stingray while you're there.
James & Qin Yuan's Tip: This place comes alive at night. If you go for dinner, the open-air carpark right in front is usually packed—try the multi-storey carpark at the HDB blocks just behind the market instead.
Bedok 85, Feng Shan Market
The Old School Charm: Hua Yu Wee
Distance: Just down the road on Upper East Coast Road.

You’ve probably driven past this grand old bungalow a million times. It’s the only restaurant left from the 1970s seafood strip, and it is an institution.
- My Order: The Black Pepper Crab and Coffee Ribs. It feels like stepping back in time. It’s loud, it’s chaotic, and the food is consistently amazing. It’s the perfect place to bring the parents or host a big family gathering after you move in.
James & Qin Yuan's Tip: Look for the big colonial bungalow set back from the road. They actually have a decent amount of parking right inside the compound, which is a rare luxury along this stretch!
